| Hello... I have bought myself Victor Hugo's book:"The hunchback from Notre Dame". First, I have to finish the book I'm reading now, but after, I want to read this one. In fact I was so curious, that I read the first pages already. But I'm not sure if it's ok to read them both in the same time... Well...I did it a couple of times but still. Every book has its own time. I wanted to ask you, if you read it...and what are your opinions on it!? I think that many of you read it already...after all, we are all Notre Dame "fans" here Kisses.... and Alex runs to :study: -> because I want to finish the book I'm currently reading faster!! | |

It's one of my favourite books ever!!!!! It's amazing!!!!!!!! yesh, I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge Notre Dame fan but the book is awesome.. I adore it, I adore Victor Hugo.. I read this book for 5 times!!! 3 times in russian and 2 times in french And I always cry in the end when I read it, when I watch the movie or listen to a musical.. So, you muuuuuuuuuusssst read it!!!! First 54 pages or so (maybe) are not very exciting, but they are very interesting, because Victor tells us about monuments.. he describes streets and buildings.. everything! So, we are ready to discuss the book, you see I wish you to start reading it as soon as possible!

| Yes, as you say, Lerka, the first 50something pages are hard to read, but they are very important. I read it in few days, I just can't leave the book after I started to reading it :study: And two weeks later, I watched two movies (the one with Salma Hayek as Esmeralda and I don't remember who as Quasimodo, and the second one - with Anthony Hopkins as Quasimodo). But I was disappointed from the movies - the book is much much stronger. And the end.... I cried too. OK, I'm telling no more, let's wait for Alex to read it first | |

| 1. Philip Pullman's Dark Materials (Hehe...the main character's name in this book is Lyra. Ironic, eh? ) 2. Uglies, Pretties, and Specials by Scott Westerfield 3. The Handmaid's Tale...can't remember the author at the moment... 4. The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer 5. Double Helix by Nancy Werlin 6. Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky 7. Atlas Shrugged...can't remember this one either... 8. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 9. The Gulag Archipelago...these books are MASSIVE!!! somewhere around 700 HUNDRED pages with this size font!! But I think that they are really interesting and really like them... 10. I love all of Tamora Pierce's works...they are amazing, I must say! I like a bunch of random, and large books... I have pretty much read a book a day over the break because I have nothing else to do... I like breaks and all, but they can get kinda dull at times... Lyra | |

- As for my favourite books:
1. The Children of Captain Grant - Jules Verne (I've read it many times) 2. The headless horseman - Mayne Reid (I hope the spelling is correct ) 3. Notre Dame de Paris - Victor Hugo one of the best novels I've ever read 4. Osadeni dushi (Doomed souls) - Dimitar Dimov - a wonderful novel, wondeful movie and wonderful music (our pair Spasova-Todorov use this music this season for their SP, I think somewhere in the forum you can find the link and the summary of the movie) 5. The biography of Albena and Max and many others...... Hmmmmm I'd like to read Osadeni dushi I think I could find it on the internet I'm going to try at least My fav books are: 1. Notre Dame de Paris, Victor Hugo 2. The last of the Mohicans, James Fenimore Cooper (A book with a very unexpected end for me.. I was waiting for.. some love scenes maybe.. I was waiting for declarations between Uncas and Cora, but it didn't happen.. everything was much stronger and less common.. two different cultures were between them, but they died together.. and this moment is one of the strongest moments I've ever read.. deeply tragic.. and it impressed me very much.) 3. Les Misérables, Victor Hugo again 4. Romeo & Juliette, William Shakespeare 5. The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown (I like Dan Brown : )))) + lots of russian novels like "First love" & "Asia" by Turgenev, "Gadyuka" by Aleksei Tolstoy, "Povesti Belkina" (The Belkin's stories) by Pushkin and others.. P.S. Albie & Max's bio is off the competition

I like Cooper as well. And Dan Brown. Have you read other books by him? Angels and Demons is a gorgeous. Still can't make my mind with my top-5. It's likely to be top-100.

It's really not that bad...you just have to get into it...and if you have a lot of time on your hands, it's really easy to read!! Except for all of these diminutives...but that's inevitable in any slavic book... Lyra

| I like everything. Well... I read everything, anyway. Right now, I'm reading Canadian literature. Michael Ondaatje , Michael Winter , Lisa Moore , Stephanie Bolster ... Ondaatje completely blows me away. He is an absolutely brilliant writer. I've read "The English Patient", "The Cinnamon Pealer", "Running in the Family" and "Anil's Ghost", they've all been just amazing. Annnnd he teaches at York University. I have to get in. | |

Yeah, I read "Angels & Demons", but the plot is sooooo silimar with the "Da Vinci Code" [/quote] Yep, they're very similar! I've read first Angels and Demons, and I liked it a lot! Few weeks later I've read The Da Vinci Code and I was a bit disappointed, because it was sooooo similar! The love story, the end... Nevermind, both are very good books!
