Thank you for your post. As I (as most other fans I believe) had only read the info provided by the press it looked like Maxim was to blame for the accident. Maybe it is not true. I hope it is not. I so want to believe it wasn't Maxim's fault. At first I had next to zero sympathy and compassion to Maxim believing it was entirely his fault based on the info from the papers. It's a terrible tragedy no matter if Maxim is found guilty or not. My heart is with the victims and their families. And I keep thinking about Albena ... ETA: If Maxim is proven innocent I believe they should sue the media that wrote about DUI, overspeeding and beeing warned for reckless driving. Because it is not a regular tabloid rumour about private life. It's something very serious.

| Lerka, I really appreciate your message.... Like Shanti, I read only the articles on the internet. Only 5-10% of all the articles specified that Maxim was involved in an accident. All the rest mentioned that he caused it. It is pretty confusing and it tears me appart... It's terrible for everyone involved. I do pray and think about each and every person involved in this. I know drinking and driving is out of discussions but I also have faith that Maxim wasn't drunk. I believe he has enough sense to know when he can control the car and when not. I also hope that the alcohol has nothing to do with the accident. Yet, he should have thought about this....never drink and drive...never..no matter what.... It's awful and regrettable and I don't even know what to say.. I know I wish a better finale. I'm constantly thinking about this. I hope tomorrow the girl will have more chances and the day after tomorrow even more. I have the hope that Albenka and Maxim receive a great support. I wish the same for their families and for the families of the victims | |

| Lerka, thank you very much for your post. We are all confused, shocked and worried.
I just want to share that I am really disappointed with the awful qualifications people give to Maxim. When I go to forums, or to comments of people - I am so scared! They call him names, they mock him, they want him in jail forever, they humiliate him... I believe that the media is very much to blame. These days every single night we have at least 5 minutes of journalists reports about the accident. They showed the transportation of the girl in coma - I believe they did not have the right to do so - the view was too shocking for people. They showed the funeral of the boy. They showed the crying family, the cursing friends... A horrible picture!
I am just appalled from the attitude of everyone. You know well that here in Bulgaria we have A LOT of problems with drunk drivers. If it was not Maxim, if it was a mobster or a mafia guy - the case would have been a lot quieter. Now Maxim is going to be their target, their scape goat.
This is not fair!
But unfortunately, Maxim really did a mistake - a huge mistake, and now he is going yo pay for it. Even if there is no jail for him, his name will always be connected with killer. I know it is awful, but I see what people think and say about him.
This maybe is the hardest obstacle for Maxim and Albena, and of course for the families of the victims. That is why we have to be with them, to help at least morally.
I love Maxim a lot, but I still cannot forgive him. To be perfect on the ice, to be so strong there, to be so disciplined, to be such a good professional, and to lose control for a single moment. A very crucial moment...
I sympathize all the people who were involved in the accident, and also to Albena, who, I believe, is very very very affected by the whole story.
Maxim, Albena, милички, мал шанс! Но ние ще сме до вас...

| Thank you Lerochka for what you wrote. Before this, I had also only read articles on the internet. After reading your message (& talking on MSN ), it gives me more perspective about this whole terrible incident. As they say, there's two sides to every story. I can agree that the press likely withheld facts in their articles. (Of course they want to make this into a big scandel-- it sells them newspapers.) For example, the reason why Maxim was pulled over by the police was very different in the press articles. It was written that he'd been driving badly and travelling too closely to the other cars. So, it's interesting to know he wasn't pulled over because of that. As for how alcohol effects someone, i.e. drinking & eating normally vs. drinking & dieting... I cannot comment as I do not drink. As well, I would be interested in finding out some more information about how this would effect the numbers of a blood alcohol test. Anyways, from your description of the road conditions, it makes me wonder if the accident would have happened regardless-- even if Maxim hadn't consumed any alcohol. A combination of the poor road conditions and the fact that a Hummer is difficult to drive could have definitely contributed. However, these wonderings seem really unimportant. What's important is that this accident did happen and that many people are suffering because of it. Maxim shouldn't have gotten into that car after drinking. Period. And I'm sure that he knows that better than anyone now. There really cannot be a punishment greater than that knowledge, in my opinion. Whatever the courts, the judges and the police do is up to them. But to Maxim, Albena, their families and the victims' families, I would like to say that my thoughts & prayers are with you all. It's a huge tragedy, which is more awful and painful for you than I can imagine. So, I will also say, keep holding on because there is still light out there. | |

| Thank God the girl is no longer in coma, that's at least some good news Lerka, your post made things more clear for me, of course driving with alcohol is absolutely wrong, but there are other circumstances and i hope they will be mentioned too instead of just blaming Maxim. The thought that he was involved in an accident with one dead and one wounded person would be terrible enough for him and I hope they won't punish him for a thing wich maybe wasn't his fault. my prayers and thoughts are with Max and Albena and the other victims and their families... | |

| Last night I got a little weepy watching vivika's excellent montage "She's All I Ever Had" in view of this awful turn of events that have transpired. I couldn't help but consider how very blessed Maxim is to have Albena to help him through this. I know it has affected her as much as he but she seems to be a very sensible, stable, positive sort of person and that is the kind of person I'd like to have around if my world were falling down around my ears. It helps me to know, as I grieve along with the rest of you, that in addition to Albena, Maxim has the support of his family and legions of friends, too. It is troubling to me to read that the investigation into the accident will take two months! I thought fault was established by skid marks, road conditions, placement of autos, etc. at the scene. What can they do during this two month period that they haven't already done? It's far beyond sad that Maxim must wait so long as this investigation is dragged out. That he was driving under the influence of alcohol is very wrong and cannot be condoned but I have realized that none of us is perfect, we all make mistakes (yes, even big ones like his), and that there, but for the grace of God, go I. Praying for Maxim, Albena, their families, their supporters worldwide, and for those who were injured and the family of the man who lost his life. | |

<-- I don't think it's very kind to make that judgement about Albena and Maxim's personal life. In the past they have always been very supportive of eachother, so I don't see why now would be different. I realize that this is a hard time for everyone, but please, nothing good will come out of writing things like that. I hope you understand my feelings about this and are not offended.
