It was Lerka's idea - to make a special topic to talk about our names and stop be constantly off-topic .

Ok..

Let's try to break the ice with your diminutives.
I'm so curious about them and I'm sure that there are some really beautiful diminutives..

I'm the first? OK then...

Vania - it's obvious and the more popular of the diminutives of my name (it's Ivanka btw)
Vanichka (as Lerka calls me) - I love this one, because only my closest friends call me like this
Vanche
Vanyusha (very cute one)
Vanyushka
Vanyushche - I know it's hard to write them in latin letters, it's not easy to explain how they're pronounced
One of my colleagues calls me Vanessa
Some people even call me Iva

and so on...maybe there are others, but I can't remember right now.

they are awesome Vania especially Vanyushka and Iva is also very nice, that's a girls name by us, not a diminutive, one of my classmates is called like that.

My full name is Lauren. After Lauren Baicall (), but sadly I don't have cat eyes like her.
Laur - erm... as the girls at RG (+ Lerochka ) call me. I like this one.
Laurie - I hate this short form. My friend used to call me it to piss me off. It worked to.
Lana - well... this one is obvious.
Also, there are Lanochka, Lanchik and the other Russian diminutives that Lerka calls me. And that's about it... Not very exciting, eh?

Ohhh... those 3 names are especially cute. Vanyushche looks very pretty, but... I have no clue how to pronounce it! It's funny how Russian and Bulgarian names have millions of diminutives, when English ones have *at most* one or two.

Manou : only one friend calls me like that, she invents it and I like it very much because this friend is very close to me. But it's more a diminutive for girls whose name is Marine.

But I love my Russian diminutives (I have a lot as my name is obvious in Russia) but nobody calls me like that, except Val of course !
Marinochka : this one is so cute ! I'm sure it's cutier with Val's little russian accent.
Marishka : maybe my favorite and I like the diminutive of this diminutive too , Marish.

In Holland it's the same...almost no diminutives only when a name is long likte Dees for Desiree or Sas for Saskia. as far as I know my name hasn't any diminutives...probably only Rach and when my mom is angry she sometimes calls me Rachelle. I'd like to know the Russian/Bulgarian etc. variants!!! if they are....

So.. In russian language there are two kinds of telling names. The first one - simple. When you apply to a person or when you talk about him (her) and the second kind - only when you apply to a person, when you talk to him (her) I hope you could understand what I want to say.
Soo.. Marish is not a diminutive of Marishka, but it is a form of the appeal. You can say "Marishka" as well when you apply to Marina, but if you talk about her with another girl you can't call her Marish, only Marishka.
Soo.. Marina. The form of the appeal is Marin (or Marine in french).

I thought your name was Lera, and then Lerka was a diminutive and Lerochka a diminutive of a diminutive, but actually you're named Valeria (wich is a wonderful beautiful name!!! ) so you can have diminutives of diminutives of diminutives of...... I would have thought more longer about learning Russian when I knew this (no, it's cute, all the names, really)

Valerie and Lerochka are so nice we, in Dutch, would probably call you Lerochkla, like Veerle for Vera (that's mostly used for little girls, but it's so cute I like it and still use now...)[/quote]

Marion ? It's a very current name here in France. But I don't know any diminutive. Or for little girls, but when they are very little, some people call them "Marionnette" (that means "puppet" in English ).

I love Marinochka It sounds so great. I know Lerka calls you like this..always. And reading this diminutive so often and also because I like it, I sometimes feel the need to call you Marinochka. But it's Lerka's cute diminutive and I like when she calls you like this, I couldn't...I'm not russian.. ma petite..

We also have the name "Marina" here in Romania. It's not a very common name but it's not at all impossible to find girls named like this. I like your name but I love the diminutives.
