General Impressions and FluffPairs*
Yuko and Alexander - Can someone please explain their FS to me?
The mismatched (and crazy!) costumes and the frantic, sloppy choreography do nothing for me.
There's also such a focus in the program in showing how *different* they are--her flexibility vs. his strength--and not enough time is being spent on making them look like a team.
And I always think they could be such a good team too!!!
I'm not really sure what Moskvina is thinking. The SP, however, will be gorgeous if they work on their connection on the ice. Lovely music choice and Yuko is so delicate that having her be "The Swan" is very fitting.
*
Jessica and Bryce - Their SP to "Fix You" by Coldplay is gorgeous, but right now, it looks a lot like "Blower's Daughter 2.0".
And we all know how much I love them...
so, I must really believe it to be saying it!
hehe.
I'm hoping that it will develop into being much more than that.
Okay, was I the only one who cringed a little when I read they'd be using "Carmen" as the FS?
No? Okay good.
But okay, I've completely changed my mind!!!
Their music cuts are much different than the usual overplayed skating selections of "Carmen"... think Navka.
They were using relatively unknown sections of the music for the most part... and it really worked!
I love the new FS and I can't wait to see it improve.
As for the 3twist... hmm... nice to see that they are trying it... not so nice to see Jess landing on Bryce's shoulder... constantly.
*
Keauna and Rockne - Am I a bad person if I say I can't stand them?
Very, very junior in their performances. They are in Senior competition now, even if she is just 16, I want to see some maturity in their performances.
Meh... Strong technically, but I can't get into their performances.
Men*
Patrick - I love Patrick. And I love Patrick even more for saying that Yannick should've won.
Now, I'm not *sure* if Yannick should've won. But should Patrick have won?
It was a fairly flawed performance and definitely not the way you want to win a gold medal.
The new programs are looking great, though.
*
Yannick - If you have not watched this man's SP to techno 5th symphony voids... I demand that you go do so... NOW!!!
It's all sorts of amazing.
It converted me into being a major Yannick fan.
He gets so into his music and feels absolutely every movement...
fabulous!
His nerves got him a little bit in the FS, however.
Still... I think the fact that he didn't end up on the podium is crazy.
I thought the FS merited at least 2nd.
I'm still not sure who should've won.
Will have to watch the tapes!
*
Ryan - Really like him.
Maybe he depends a little too much on how ridiculously good looking he is, though.
hehehe!!!
*
Anton - Who is this man and why is he so awesome?!?!?!
I was so impressed with him the entire weekend.
I loved both his programs... such drama and creativity!
*SQUEE!*
I could watch him all day.
*
Vladimir - Alexei + Evgeni... = VLAD!!!
He was clearly trying to merge both of these skaters styles into his own skating.
But I still found him terrific.
He clearly cared a lot about interpreting his music and did the traditional Russian footwork, completely with gloved hand movements!
My favourite.
hehe.
*
Evan - Hmm... hmm... hmm... What can I say?
His exhibition to "Billy Jean" was definitely a highlight from the gala!!!
I just wish he could bring that energy and spark into his actual competitive performances.
I can see that he moves well across the ice and the movements in the choreography look good... but where is the feeling?
He needs to let the music take over and relate to it... and thus far, I don't see it.
*
Shawn -
Shawn is just blowing me away this year!!!
First at SA and now in Ottawa!
He is SO MUCH IMPROVED from last year!!!
And winning the FS?
Get out!
Fabulous and totally deserved.
Just please... triple axel needs to be landed on one foot!!!
hehe.
