- The central theme was 'The Torino Shroud'. Almost every scientist declared it a fake, except belivers. Having this thesis, they tried to prove why it is a fake. And the main theory is that the shroud was designed by Da Vinci. There are many hints to that...the way he uses his face in pictures. they discovered Da Vinci's trademarks in the shroud. Da Vinci had access and knowledge to those techniques. There are 3 theories: The shroud is the earliest photography - made with medieval techniques. The possibility is proved. The second one: the image on the shroud is in fact the result of burning. It is possible to burn the material with an iron mask/statue. -> the result is similar. The third possibility is that it is a classic picture. the image has depth. Which is impossible to make somehow else...Da Vinci knew these painting techniques, he knew about ealry photsensitive products and he knew how to use the light...
Hehe....I'm so caught in these right now, that I can't stop... wow... i had no idea what "The Shroud of Turin" was. so, i googled it. that's so crazy. i can't believe no one has yet to figure out, who created this shroud. i mean, there seems to be a million theories, but no true answer. i looked at photos of it and it does look like a Da Vinci creation... but it sounds like scientists will not credit him, because "Because Leonardo (1452-1519) was born almost a full century after a documented appearance of the Shroud in western Europe". Very interesting. so, after watching the documentory, who do you think created it, Alex? | |

O Lerka, you should know I love him noooo no don't be afraid I don't, but probably you remember last year at UniHel's site, I listened to a "thing" of a Russian skate exhibition and Baskov was singing there Kalinka together with Evgeni and some other skaters, it sounded really funny especially when you told Kalinka is about a berry... (I still like the song though ) and now I wanted to know how Baskov looks | |

| Lana, I'm vegetarian too and we have a recipe of cornbread but it's in Dutch, so I've to translate it...or find something different....
this is a recipe for Mexican cornbread and the other one for "normal" cornbread. I hope it's something you were searching for..
INGREDIENTS: 1 cup butter, melted 1 cup white sugar 4 eggs 1 (15 ounce) can cream-style corn 1/2 (4 ounce) can chopped green chile peppers, drained 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup yellow cornmeal 4 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. Blend in cream corn, chiles, Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheese. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, cornmeal, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to corn mixture; stir until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, until a toothpick inserted into center of the pan comes out clean.
1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup yellow cornmeal 2/3 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon salt 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 egg 1 cup milk 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Spray or lightly grease a 9 inch round cake pan. In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt and baking powder. Stir in egg, milk and vegetable oil until well combined. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. | |

Very interesting. so, after watching the documentory, who do you think created it, Alex? Well, that's not the only document about the shroud. there are many hints in the "Bible" as well. There are some old documents and testimonials about this - early testimonials. It is said that Da Vinci always liked riddles and games. He loved irony and symbols. So, after hearing/reading something like "You should look for the glory of God/Jesus and not the shroud" he couldn't help himself to play a trick. He also realised that belivers will worship the shroud and what it represents, so it is possible that he wanted to deceive the whole world - people would in fact worship his work, they would worship science, instead of a miracle. I don't have enough informations about this, so obviously I'm influenced by the documentary. But I'm inclined to think that Da Vinci was capable of such a trick. I think he knew many things and it is possible to give him the credit. A little example: there are some paintings he made back then and nowadays people still can't figure out how those were made. For example, "St John" (the portrait looks very devilish...I can't see a saint there ) was analysed with UV and all sorts of lights and machines. Scientist and art experts were unable to find some sketches. Every painting has more layers, sketches, some background, some lines, drawings...or at least white backround . This painting has nothing of a kind, not even some lines. -> Da Vinci's painting techniques are so complex and good that no one can copy him. They have no idea how the painintg was conceived... So, if Leonardo wanted to do such a thing (no matter why..the reasons) I'm sure he could have, he was capable . | |

Both recipes look fabulous. I must try making one, when I have the time. By the way, I didn't know that you were vegetarian, too. Very cool. I just mentioned that because sometimes people put bacon bits in corn bread. Unfair. Thank you, again! | |

You see, "perro" means "dog" and "pero" means "but". Someone was speaking Spanish to me and he kept saying, "Pero... blah blah blah... pero...". I just stood there, thinking, "Why does he keep saying 'dog'?" It sounds good doesn't it? I want to make one, but I'm leaving for Edmonton on Friday. So, I would have time to eat it all. | |

That's like my class. I had maybe 4 or 5 vegetarians in my lit class. Sometimes, we would have big, heated discussions. Lots of the veg girls had very strong opinions on it. I've been vegetarian, since I was 12 years old, so I don't think anything of it. About the corn flakes... Believe me. I can totally relate to that story. My father likes going to Steakhouses. And... erm... I always have to eat mashed potatos... Because... There's nothing else. | |

Or at least, I couldn't find any So, the next best thing is a web site with russian songs. The lyrics are in russian and english as well -> this is useful. You can learn how to play the songs..it's funny.. Look http://www.kaikracht.de/balalaika/english/songs/kali_mel.htm And now, the photos: off-ice.. on ice Kisses :<33: | |
