Yes, from Argentina! People were very disappointed here, when we found out that it had not been our ( portuguese idea)
We portuguese , have a way of thinking , a very peculiar way of thinking, our very own. ! And we don´t forgive anything, even the smallest detail. . We found out that the music , the names the scenaries were the same as the argentinian version . SOOOO SIC ( the Tv responsible for this series) was not very well treated.. when all this came to light!
The only thing that is different is the name of the series. In Portugal it´s Vingança.. In Argentina, Montecristo....

True! We felt so let down..
at least they could have told that it was a version of a version.. or a version of other two versions, from Argentina and Chile..
So, no wonder the other independen tv / TVI/ that shows only series written by portuguese writers, gets the huge audiences it gets..

We do enjoy the series. It´s the second most watched show on TV! And it´s beautiful..the portuguese crew did a fab job! It´s more a series than a novela!

it´s very modern.. not over dramatic , it´s a loooove story and it´s verrrry european!!!!!!!! , but the point is that we don´t like to be cheated the way we were! [/b]

TVI is going to adapt one of the most popular portuguese novels in the last couple of years EQUADOR!! to a 26 tv episode series! They are going to be on location in Africa and everybody wants Marco to play the part of Luis!!!


the story( in 1905, the young governor of the portuguese colony. S. Tomé in East Africa has a very awkward task: convince the english that slavery no longer exists in the portuguese plantations in the island. Luis falls in love with with the wife of the english consul..)Very hot..only Marco can do it!!! But he doesn´t succeed! There has always been a deep rivalry between the portuguese and the english , but I cannot explain why.. There is a Forum to put pressure on tvi

I think I can say more or less the reason why portuguese don´t like the english very much. : one of our most admired queens, Philipa of Lancaster, was english( back in the 14th century). She was the mother of Henry the Navigator and from then on portuguese princes were considered english princes too..
In the end of the 16th century when Portugal became part of Spain although king Felipe appointed a portuguese governor and maintained portuguese laws, , the english ruthlessly attacked all the portuguese ships they came across excusing themselves that Portugal no longer existed..Portugal was a part of Spain for them..
In the great Armada sea Battle between Felipe of Spain and Isabel I OF eNGLAND, portuguese backed Felipe of Spain , because he was already the portuguese king by then.His mother was Isabel of Portugal and the male portuguese heir had died in a battle against the moors in Morroco..

In the 19th century(Portugal was an independent country again). At the time the english made Portugal give them part of our lands around Mozambique, or else there would be a war,
Portugal agreed, because we are a small countryand could not face England , but the people never forgave England and the intellectuals never forgave OUR king...
A couple of years later , King Carlos and his eldest son were shot to death in the main Lisbon square. Two years later the monarchy fell and Portugal became a REPUBLIC AND BECAUSE MONARCHY FELL MOST people think that was why we had to endure a fascist dictarship for 50 years...
For most portuguese the english were to blame!!

This is a bit too much history..I think but , O. K..here is the reason why
Portuguese still don´t like the english till today..

There have been polls here as well..Most people are in favour as long as the capital is Madrid ( just imagine ....)but, perhaps they are thinking of a kind of economic region, I don´t know..

OMG!! Maria , this is crazy I don´t believe this... And my country is divided...most people here just don´t mind..some say we are regions part of Iberia, galician and portuguese are almost the same language and king Juan Carlos grew up in Portugal till he was 13, speaks portuguese as he speaks spanish, and is a charismatic person..
Some people say we would have to gain with an economic union..
This is crazy!!!

I'm ashamed to admit, I study EU and Europe and politics and didn't know this!!

Maybe Maria is right. Maybe they are talking about an economic region. There are euroregions and EU believes that these kind of unions are benefic for Europe. This means that each region can take its own choices and develop in its best interests. It means that such a region shares a bit of authonomy. It is also more entitled to solve regional issues because the countries forming such an euroregion understand the existent problems better.

For example there is a sort of union (I'm sorry, I can't find the proper words in English) between parts of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine and Romania. It is called Carpathian Foundation/Euroregion. It aims to preserve and develop peaceful relations between ethnic groups living near borders or develop the infrastructure and economy of the area. It also aims to preserve the mountains and take care of the people living in those areas. Whatever, it has many attributes but little power and small successes.

There are similar projects. There is a debate concerning this. If this can be the future of Europe's organization or not, if they are helpful and beneficial or not..blah..blah..

Maybe this is what's all about....

Moreover, after WWI and WWII Europe learned a lesson: never change borders and limits through force or without consent.

I think you shouldn't worry about this....although you can rarely tell or forecast what will happen...

I really enjoyed reading your last post. Things are calmer now here, and you are right, that´s what´s this is all about.
Some people here jumped to hasty conclusions, because this country has lived with the shadow of Spain hovering over us for centuries.
We are sure now that there is going to be a serious debate about this. And the fact is that almost seventy per cent of the portuguese population would like to live in a region called Iberia ( but they ´d like to remain portuguese. )

This country has lots of economic problems and there are always those who feel that it would be easier to become a kind of autonomous region of Spain.
I don´t agree. I am very patriotic. This country and its people have suffered so much to maintain our independence that I get sick eachtime this subject is brought up..
