| Erm... You aren't going to be 100% happy with this present, Ler. I received "Patinage" magazine yesterday and there is an interview of interest in it! The only problem is... the interview of interest... only.interviews.Fab. And not Nath!!! But earlier in the magazine there are some very gorgeous photos of her AND Fab. So, I will have my friend scan them for you, as soooon as possible!!! But the Fab interview is enjoyable , so I hope you like it! More to come... I'm just taking a little break. | |

| More... Wheeeeee!!!! La Fin. | |

I did indeed. But Fab doesn't really mention Nath that much. No, no. The interview is alllllll about hiiiiiim. My favourite part was when he said, "Et si je devais m'identifier à un patineur, ce serait Gwendal car il a un charisme incroyable." loooooooool!!!!! He indentifies most with Gwendal because Gwendal is incredibly charismatic? Did I read that right? Well... erm... you are charismatic, Fab. Nice to know you think so, too! Yes, the photos are coming. Sooooon, I hope. Nath looks super lovely in all of them! I don't think she can look bad in any pic! The "Feu" et "Glace" seems to be a trend in French Ice Dancing! I read another Nath & Fab interview in "Spotlight on Skating", where Fab said that when Nath gets angry... she throws things. Did I type that one up for you, Lerochka? I don't think I did!!! | |

| From the December 2006 issue of Spotlight on Skating With Pechalat & Bourzat, Opposites AttractIn the partnership of Natalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat, she's the curry, he's the rice. She's the salsa, he's the chips. She's the... well, you get the picture. Their opposite personalities came to force in Skate America's "kiss & cry" this October, when the 23 year-old Pechalat reacted to a two-point deduction in their free dance. "Did you see her? We saw our first lift didn't count. We lost seven or eight points; they say it is illegal. (Bourzat's hands were over his shoulders.) Nathalie sees this on the screen and she runs to the dressing room. I had my hand on the door and she slammed it! She is always yelling and throwing clothes, that's the way she is," said the 26 year-old Bourzat with a chuckle. "It is genetic. My mother is like me," responded an unconcerned Pechalat. "Yes, but sometimes in competition if you want to be very strong you don't have to show someone what you are feeling. I don't think all French women are like this, only the skaters," parried Bourzat. More in a little bit... | |

| Continuing... The attractive couple decided to capitalize on their differences in this season's free dance, a decidedly non-Vivaldi version of "Four Seasons". "Nathalie wanted to work with a new choreographer from Cirque du Soleil (Mourad Merzouki) and his brother (Assen Merzouki) made the music just for us. He visited us at training and decided to do something with the four seasons; Nathalie is summer and winter and I am spring and fall, because I am more calm and never yell," he explained. "We do specific instruments -- violin is winter, piano is fall, accordion is spring and guitar is summer. It is original music and choreography, and a new style of dancing on the ice," added Pechalat. The couple debuted the program at Skate America in Hartford this October, where they earned personal best scores in all phases of the competition -- compulsory dance, original dance and free dance -- en route to a surprising bronze medal, despite the illegal lift. It was their best result since being paired together by their coach, Muriel Zazoui, in 2000. "Muriel decided we would do well together. Nathalie's partner (had gone) abroad to find another partner, and I was with one girl but she didn't fit me well. When Muriel decided this, it was her best idea," said Bourzat. While the couple quickly meshed on the ice, winning back-to-back French junior titles in 2001 and 2002, it took them longer to forge a successful off-ice relationship. "I liked him as a skater but not all the time in (non-skating) life, because at first we never talked together. Later we became good friends and now it's the best," said Pechalat. "In real life we are on good terms when we practice. Sometimes we clash but mostly we agree because we focus on the same goals," added Bourzat with a smile. Graduating to the senior ranks, the couple was twice French bronze medalists before taking the silver medal in 2005 and 2006 behind Isabelle Delobel & Olivier Schoenfeld. They train with both the French champions and World silver medalists Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon of Canada at Zazoui's rink in Lyon, a situation they acknowledge gets a bit tense at times. "With Dubreuil and Lauzon, our relations are very good because they are an example for us. But with the other French couples it is complicated, because we are always in competition. It is not so easy for our coach, I think. For this we have a solution: we create our own team. We have our own choreographer just for us and our own physical trainer," said Pechalat. "We know how to work with different kinds of people; when we meet someone to do our choreography we ask for the best even if it costs a lot, because we want to be the best," added Bourzat. | |

| They also keep their own schedule. "Very often we go to train at 6 am, so we can go to school. The other senior couples train at half past seven. We have different hours so we train with junior couples," he said. "We go to school from 8 am to 11 am, then go back to training until 1 pm, and then back to school. About 30 minutes a day is spent on compulsories. We don't do much ballet, but physical preparation three times a week, spending six, seven, eight hours working on choreography. It is always specific, like for our free dance or tango original dance." Pechalat studies at the Lyon School of Management (École de Management de Lyon), and Bourzat at the Osteopathic Education Center. (Osteopathy is a system of health care that focuses on treatment of the physical body, the joints, muscles and connective tissue.) Like many French skaters, the couple has an independent streak. "We try to be original every year. I don't like the way ice dancing is moving; people are doing the same music and same choreography. I am tired of this," mused Bourzat. "We have to change every year if we want to (improve). If we stay in the same way of skating, we can't move forward. We need to move our bodies differently and experiment with lighter lifts, heavier lifts." The couple, who plan on competing through the 2010 Olympics and perhaps beyond, are hoping to make a big leap in the rankings. Last season, they placed a disappointing 18th at the Olympics after Pechalat fell in the OD and 15th at Worlds when Bourzat stumbled on some footwork in their free dance to "Les Miserables". "We want to go to the top five or six at Europeans and perhaps top 10 at Worlds. But it's not like we have a specific goal. We just have to do our job the best way we can and everything can follow," said Bourzat. "It's not like we are looking especially at what marks the judges put, but on what we feel. I know we can do a lot of things because in training we sometimes do something really wonderful. Now we want to reach that all the time." Finished!!! | |

- Pechalat and Bourzat Try Not to be Boring
Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian BourzatMarch 5, 2007 Article & Photo J. Barry Mittan France's second veteran senior dance team is that of Nathalie Pechalat (24) and Fabian Bourzat (27). The dancers won their third straight silver medal at French Nationals after winning the bronze the previous two years. They also won the French junior dance title twice. They couple has placed as high as sixth at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2002, 11th at the Europeans Championships in 2005, 15th at Worlds in 2006, and 18th at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. They also won bronze medals at the Winter Universiade in 2005 and Skate America in 2006. "We plan to go for one more Olympic Games," Bourzat stated. "For three, we would be too old and I want to have a family. And we both have something else to do after skating when we finish our studies."Pechalat first tried ballet when she was six, then experimented with synchronized swimming. When she was seven, she started skating. "My mom liked to watch skating on television so she decided to take me and my two sisters ice skating one day. I liked it and started lessons. I liked jumping, but not falling so when a new coach for ice dancing came to our rink and told me it would be good for me to skate dance, I began dancing. I was eleven." Bourzat's memories of his beginnings are more vague. "I don't remember exactly but it was something about girl," he said. "I was about eight. My first coach found me a partner and told me it would be better for me, so I started dancing.""I had five other partners before Nathalie but we became a team immediately," he added. "My partner had retired and there was another girl who wanted to skate with me, but Nathalie can express the music more than other girls." "My last partner had left and I was all alone," Pechalat recalled. "My coach told me he had a good partner for me and put me with Fabian. He is a most beautiful skater. He has great motivation and is a very hard worker. He's the best partner I could have." "We are a couple in each moment," Bourzat added. The dancers have both worked with Muriel Zazoui and Romain Haguenauer for the last eight years. Four days a week, they spend four hours on ice, and for two days a week, they practice two hours. They only spend about an hour in off ice work during the season, mainly in dance classes. They only take ballet during the summer."I like the compulsory dances because it's like a game," Pechalat said. "Everybody does the same thing." "The hardest dances are my favorites, like the Tango Romantica," Bourzat added. "I hate classical music because everyone skates to it and it's not interesting," Pechalat said. "It's too boring. I want to do something with a new theme and new ideas. I like our free dances because of their originality."Their free dances over the past few seasons have reflected the couple's spirit. "They are our coach's idea," Bourzat said. "She thought it would be better for us to try and express a story. In 2003-2004, their free dance portrayed the story of Che Guevara using music like "Dance of the Soldiers" by the Red Army Choir, "Hasta Siempre", and "Demasia da Corazon". The next season they portrayed scenes from "Cats" although they weren't allowed to use their masks except during exhibitions. For the Olympic season, they danced to the French favorite, "Les Miserables". And for the 2006-07 season, they skated their free dance to "Four Seasons", composed and arranged for them by Assen Merzouki.
