| Hi again, I`ve just registered after having found this forum and the guest book in the site. I`ve just read some of Albena&Max`s statements from today`s pressconference - Max has played with an arm injure on the worlds and is now going to do some tests in the hospital here to see if there isn`t a small broken bone as there are doubts about it. He also said, when asked if this medal could substitute the deserved but not given one on the Olympics, that each medal is different and that he`s only sorry for not having competed against Navka and Kostumarov as Albena&Max wanted to beat them again, just like they did in Japan. They thanked for the warm welcome and said that they will give their costumes from the worlds to the sport`s museum in Sofia, where are also their bronze medals - the first medals from figure skating for Bulgaria at all. That was maybe the most important from the pressconference in brief, here is the whole article in Bulgarian http://sportni.bg/?tid=40&oid=866361 Cya | |

| Yes... I had been wondering if Max had an injury to his wrist. In practice during Worlds, I always saw him getting it wrapped before he took the ice. I really hope Maxim's injury is nothing serious! I remember they were never practicing lifts in practice, so I was terrified when they did them in competition. I emailed Lerka during Worlds, to see if she knew about the injury... but she had heard nothing. I suppose they were trying to keep it a secret. | |

| yeah, I guess they were... maybe it was better so. Anyway, that makes their win even more inspiring - that is the character of a real fighter | |

| i'm impressed...they are strong indeed.. if i'd have know this before FD i would have stoped breathing for 4 minutes and a half. i would have been terrified as well.... i think it's better that we knew nothing.
hope it's nothing serious and that in a few days everything will heal...

| I think it was a good decisoin not to tell the media about the injury because if the judges knew, they could have given the medal to the canadians and leave Albena and Maxim with the consolation that he was injured.(strange theory, I know) | |

| hm... it seems quite possible to me. That could`ve been really the judge`s excuse. Although I am not sure if the judges or the other skaters didn`t notice the injure - Lana said that she has noticed it, for example. | |

yeah, could be-I think it was very good that they didn't tell anything about it-the people might have thought it was only a precaution

hope it's nothing serious and that in a few days everything will heal... I'm really amazed that Maxim didn't let his injury affect him at all in competition! It's truly amazing. I remember the first time I saw him get his arm wrapped was before the OD practice. My heart dropped to the buttom of my stomach. I just turned to Chel-C and was like, " There is something wrong." From being a rhythmic gymnast, I have had a million different injuries. So, I knew that if Max was injured that their training routine would be modified... I watched their practice very carefully and it was evident right away that they weren't practicing any of their lifts. I couldn't breathe at all when they did the lifts in competition! It was a bit scary!!!

No, I don't think your theory is strange at all, Marie! In fact, I agree completely! If Albena and Maxim had told the media before Worlds that Maxim was injured... it might have give the judges the option of putting them 2nd or lower... Their excuse could have been that his injury effected their performances...

i agree...i don't even wanna think about this. if i'd knew abt this i would have been twice as frightened as i was. is it true that judges change? our commenttor said that they are not the same with those from the olympics. maybe we have to give some credit to this judges as well....but it's hard to do this. i know. after all that happend, our trust in the judges dropped around zero... anyhow, they deserve for this EXTRA, EXTRA congratulations, kisses, hugs, apreciations and best wishes. i meant what i said earlier. i am more than impressed. i respect them a lot. (some might try to benefit after this, to play the role of the victim..but not albena and maxim. they are fair and strong) hope his arm will be ok. (or is it the wrist?) :3<>3: (still don't know how to quote and put there the authors name as well...or you do this separately?)

| I didn't knew about this injury, they did well not to tell about this. Maybe you're right that the judges could use this injury like excuse to not put them on first place. Who knows ... everything is possible in FS, as you know Maxim was a real hero to skate with this injury, I think it could be very dangerous, thanks God, everything was fine. | |

| Sure he made the right desicion! Not to mention it was better, but I doubt the judges didn`t knew it.. (Maxim has always suffered back and wrist pains, I think every athlete has it`s weak point) | |

| http://sportni.bg/?tid=40&oid=866969 - that is the whole article in Bulgarian, now some of the infos in brief: - Max has a broken small wrist bone and has torn muscle copulas - he will be put in a plaster for 10 days. Fortunately, no operation is needed! They were also extra rewarded from a bg corporation with 10 000 lv. And in an another interview they said that they will use their relationships now to lobby for the building of a new ice rink in Sofia. -
I believe that`s amazing - he has done all this faboulous lifts with such an injure!! And for Albena it wouldn`t have been easy too - when you are on the ice you are one with your partner - his problems are also yours... And even if the pain wasn`t killing you should have quite a strong psyche to endure all these problems and not let them make you doubt in your performance (and we all saw all the selfconfidence that Albena&Max showed on the worlds - that is was a classy performance of champions). Really amazing!

| yes it's true. i think you experience every problem your partner has. and of course, this is not easy for either of them. you have your own fears/doubts and then you double them with your partners fears. so it wasn't easy. you have to have the nerves to live this behind during the competition. and they did it!! and i belive that the smallest hesitation would have had cost them a lot. it's terribly hard to dance and not to be confident in your steps, or lifts. if you do this it might get ugly. and this is why i admire them more than i did before (is that possible??) because they were so brave and strong, because they have a lovely relationship that has helped them a lot. trust is a major component that can define your entire program. and i'm glad that they have this. still can not belive this. so determined and strong! | |

| Splint is the right word. I'm glad it wasn't so serious as to require surgery or a plaster cast. | |
